Cold chain management is the control, maintenance
Temperature levels are monitored continuously from production by the manufactures, during their transportation period and storage. Special measuring devices are used such as temperature detectors which have integrated sensors and are able to record humidity levels of a commodity that requires a cool dry area.
Vaccines require proper handling is a necessity as they need to be monitored to maintain proper conditions. Manufactures require systems with good storage units and proper monitoring programs.
Recommended storage devices include refrigerators and freezers the item in storage should be placed in the center of the fridge to enable frequent air circulation. It should not be placed at the bottom or near the door of the device. Good preservation ensures effectiveness of the commodity.
Measuring instruments should be located adjacent to the item in store for proper temperature recording with minimized errors of temperature loss. Each measurement is recorded in files to aid in future analysis. Regular recordings are necessary for accuracy. Any fault detected in the system should immediately be fixed as it can harm the product.
The mode through which the product is transported requires regular supervision. The containers carrying the commodities need to be checked for their working conditions and its ability to detect changes and efficiency. Storage units must be able to work without external power supply and should have a wide space to handle many items without any failure or difficulty. Managing the commodity is a responsibility of everyone handling fresh produce. Failure to maintain the chain can cause deterioration of the product.
Containers should manage and absorb shocks when traveling to prevent damage of manufactured goods. Excellent containers are in a position to measure and record the interior and exterior environmental conditions during delivery to customers. They also have monitoring devices that can operate in extreme high or low temperatures.
Damaged items should be identified and marked. Within the cold chain management, two things must be done. They involve audit and assessment. Records are taken, systematically filed followed by an analysis. Importance of management helps the customer receive fresh quality products for his or her satisfaction and therefore increasing demand of product. Since exportation of products involves long journeys, and frequent handling it makes effective chain management more difficult.
